Lay down:
Establecer. Sentar. p.ej. "We should lay down some rules." (Hay que establecer reglas.)

Lay into (alguien):
Atacar (a alguien). Regañar (a alguien) muy fuerte; Arremeter contra (alguien). p.ej. "His mother really laid into him when he came home." (Su mamá arremetió contra el cuando el regresó a casa.")

Lay off:
1) Despedir (temporalmente).
p.ej. "El mes pasado, General Motors despedieron a 3,000 trabajadores."
2) Dejar en paz (a alguien). Dejar (algo).
p.ej. "Lay off!" (Déjame en paz!)

Lead on:
Engatusar a alguien. Engañar a alguien.
p.ej. "I thought that she liked me, but she was just leading me on." (Pensaba que le caía bien a ella, pero me engañaba.)

Let down:
Desepcionar. Quedar mal.
p.ej. "He really let me down by not coming on Friday." (Me decepcionó mucho por no haber venido el viernes.)

Let on:
Fingir. Hacer como.
p.ej. "He let on like he didn't know what we were talking about." (Fingió que no sabía de qué estábamos hablando.)

Let up:
Disminuir. Aflojar.
p.ej. "By the time the storm let up, half the city had been flooded." (Para cuando disminuyó/aflojó la tormenta, la mitad de la ciudad ya estaba inundada.)

Lie down:
Acostarse.
p.ej. "I have to lie down for 10 minutes." (Tengo que acostarme por 10 minutos.)

Light up:
1) Encender (un cigarro, un puro, etc.); Fumar.
p.ej. "In Los Angeles, you're not allowed to light up in bars." (En Los Angeles no se permite fumar en los bares.)
2) Iluminar.
p.ej. "The stars lit up the desert." (Las estrellas iluminaron el desierto.)

Let out:
Dejar salir. Dar de alto.
p.ej. "They let him out [of the hospital] on Friday." (Le dieron de alta [del hospital] el viernes.)

Live on:
Vivir de (algo). Arreglarselas.
p.ej. "You can't live on bread alone." (No se puede vivir solamente de pan.)

Log on/in to:
Entrar. p.ej. "The system is not allowing me to log in for some reason." (El sistema no me deja entrar.)

Look after (something/someone):
Encargarse de (algo/alguien).
p.ej. "They asked me to look after their cats." (Me pidieron que me encargara de sus gatos.)

Look down on:
Mirar (a alguien) por encima del hombro; Menospreciar (a alguien).
p.ej. "Noone admires someone who looks down on people." (Nadie admira al que menosprecia a otros.)

Look up to:
1) Admirar.
p.ej. A lot of people look up to him. (Mucha gente lo admira.) 2) Buscar (en un diccionario, enciclopedia, etc.)
p.ej. Busqué esta palabra en el diccionario, pero no la encontré. "I looked that word up in the dictionary, but I couldn't find it."
