Para — purpose and intended recipientPara expresses the purpose or goal of an action (Estudio para aprender), the intended recipient of something (Esta carta es para ti), and deadlines (Lo necesito para el lunes). Think of para as pointing forward toward a goal or destination.

Por — cause and motivePor expresses the reason or cause behind an action: Lo hago por amor. Gracias por tu ayuda. No pude dormir por el ruido. Where para looks forward to a purpose, por looks backward to a cause. Ask: "what drove this action?" → por.

Destination: para vs por for movement — Both prepositions can appear with movement verbs, but they mean different things. Para = heading to a destination: Salgo para Madrid mañana. Por = passing through or along a route: Pasamos por Madrid de camino a Valencia.
