📚 Quick grammar review
📌
Ir in the preterite — identical to ser — fui, fuiste, fue, fuimos, fuisteis, fueron. Both ir and ser share exactly the same preterite forms. Context always makes the meaning clear: Fue al mercado (He/she went to the market — ir) vs Fue una experiencia increíble (It was an incredible experience — ser).
🔧
No accent marks on ir/ser preterite — Unlike regular preterites (hablé, comí), the forms fui and fue have no written accents. This is because they are monosyllables (monosyllabic words don't require accent marks in Spanish). Don't write fué — the accent was eliminated by RAE spelling reforms.
💡
Common uses of ir in the preterite — The preterite of ir describes completed trips, visits, and movements: Ayer fui al médico. El verano pasado fuimos a Barcelona. ¿A dónde fuiste el fin de semana? Pair it with the preposition a + destination. The preterite always implies the trip was a completed event.
